Chernihiv.IT ProsvITa 2020: summer edition

The world around us is changing, and adaptability is becoming a “must have” skill of our time. Given the quarantine restrictions, Chernihiv IT Cluster held the ProsvITa 2020 summer program online. Every Thursday during July and August, our companies' specialists shared their knowledge and experience with students and everyone interested in the IT industry. Many of those already working in the industry and wishing to deepen and broaden their range of competencies joined the relevant webinars. For some of our speakers, the online format brought new experience and the opportunity to improve their public speaking skills.

“JavaScript / TypeScript: Why Monorepos Are Cool” by Yevhen Samonenko, senior full-stack software developer at AgileVision.

Evgeniy has 30 (!) years of software development experience.
At the webinar, the participants learned from the speaker about the following:
- why repositories and version control systems are needed
- advantages and disadvantages of mono-repositories
- advantages of mono-repositories when developing JavaScript & TypeScript projects
- tools for working in a mono repository and much more.

“Your first project as a manager” by Diana Kovaleva, PM JEVERA.

A very relevant and useful webinar for those who are starting out in project management and beyond.
How to start immersing yourself in a project? What to focus on in the first week of work? How to build effective teamwork and establish interaction? Our speaker gave structured answers to these questions, and also spoke frankly about the mistakes that even experienced managers often make and how to avoid them.

“Interface prototyping as a way to collect functional requirements” by Kateryna Ponomarenko, business analyst at JEVERA.

For a long time, Kateryna has been designing and implementing IT solutions for the contact center of a large Ukrainian retail chain, helping the business on a daily basis, empathizing with users, and collaborating with the team. At the webinar, she explained in what conditions and how to effectively use the “interface language” to identify system requirements and design it.

“Back to the Future. Web components - use and integration into a project” by Dmytro Tsybenko,
certified salesforce commerce cloud developer at Valtech Ukraine.

Dmytro introduced the audience to web components, talked about aspects of browser support, IE, and interaction with web components. He also revealed the pros and cons of the latter and showed how to use them in practice.

“Find Yourself In IT Industry” by Dima Shkilniuk, magento consultant at Valtech Ukraine.

The webinar is relevant for all those interested in IT in general, and for students, applicants and their parents in particular. We talked about why this industry is attractive today when choosing a career and what are its advantages, opportunities, and prospects. Dmytro gave an overview of IT in Ukraine, the main positions and roles, talked about his own path, and added a little motivation to those who see themselves in this industry.

Why are Ukrainian IT specialists in such demand? Why do the realities of “entering IT” differ from the advertising of any courses? Where to start and where to develop in QA?

Inna Tyslenko, Valtech Ukraine senior QA engineer, spoke frankly about this from her own experience during the webinar “Enter IT. QA”. We recommend it to students, applicants, and anyone interested in IT.

“Retrospective as a method of improving teamwork processes” by Taras Nabok, project manager at JEVERA.

There are no limits to perfection. If you want to continuously optimize your workflow, retrospectives will help you do so. During Taras's webinar, participants learned how to analyze the experience of the previous period of work and plan steps to improve the team's efficiency in the future, as well as received useful tips and life hacks on retrospectives and teamwork in general, because this is, without exaggeration, a key aspect of IT projects.
As always, the best part was the Q&A session.

Summer cycle of ProsvITa 2020 ended with webinar “Top 10 Software Engineering Skills” by Volodymyr Rudyi, CEO AgileVision.

Technologies and frameworks come and go almost every day. New programming languages appear from time to time. So what should you study? What competencies will be in demand when you graduate? Volodymyr revealed in detail the top 10 software development skills that remain popular and are in constant demand.

We are confident that the participants of our webinars received a lot of useful information and are now a level better oriented in the subject area and its modern realities. The Chernihiv.IT team continues to work on new training programs, so expect announcements of relevant events.
